FDI POLICY- OBAMA KHUSH HUA!

The Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in retail has sparked a debate whether it's going to be a bane or boon to the growth of our country. FDI in retail is definitely a back-footing by this government when India had the capability to surge ahead indigenously.

Indian retail sector has been a major contributor to the nation's GDP and is also the second largest employer, next only to the agriculture sector. The business community has always been the soft target for government policies, no matter which party is in power. (FDI policy was first initiated by NDA govt). Instead of providing stronger infrastructure and conducive business environment for small business and farmers the government's decision on FDI is a let down. 30% of the crops produced by the farmers are going waste due to lack of infrastructure. Few blame the traders and middlemen for the current situation. What is the guarantee that the farmers would get a fair deal from the big foreign retailer with far-fetched interests?

The US which is pushing(Link- 'OBAMA KHUSH HUA!)' the FDI in retail and our accommodating government is fiddling the system instead of making it stronger. The US is facing opposition to the large retailers in its own backyard.(Link- Newyork neighbourhood opposes big retailer). These are the days of Foreign Indirect Governance. Question to all the policy makers who are pushing for this alien scheme- "Will you allow the FDG- Foreign Direct Governance?". You will not, because you will be jobless. God, Forbidden!

Chintamani is mainly a business hub and a major feeder market for many villages and towns. It has more than 1200 retailers, over 100 wholesalers and many petty shops. The FDI in retail will dismantle the present structure of the business and will put thousands of families in a hardship. But the business community in Chintamani can outsmart and make the big retailers run for their money. Chintamaniacs can handle any eventuality with firmness. Big can be bogged. Dear readers, it is indeed a pleasure to get the comments from Dr. M.C. Sudhakar, MLA, the leader whose unending efforts to improve Chintamani town is there for everyone to see. The sight of the people carrying plastic pots to fetch water are the days of the past. Double Roads(remember, there were encroachers on either side of the road), Stadium, Bus-stand and the market have all seen a drastic change, especially the market next to the bus-stand which had become a den for the anti-social elements for years. And, ofcourse, there are plenty of other projects which has to see the light of the day which will mark a remarkable change in this small town. Wishing him all the success in all his endeavour to make our Chintamani a great place to live-in. And sincere thanks for writing and putting across the further plans to CC readers. We are really glad we have a responsive leader.

Arresting Anna Hazare, Absolutely Bizarre

Anna Hazare's arrest is a deplorable act of the Delhi Police and initiated by the central government. This is certainly a situation of anarchy in India. The holding up of a person , a Gandhian, who was peacefully crusading against corruption rises many questions on the integrity of the representatives of the government. Why are the ruling party representatives handling the situation so hastily? Do they think they will be at the helm of this government for ever? Will they not have to answer the people when they have to face the elections the next time? Have they forgotten it's the people who have elected them to represent their concerns?

The support for Anna Hazare and the Jan Lokpal Bill is overwhelming. The survey conducted by many agencies and the media clearly shows the public sentiment is with Anna Hazare.

The youth of Chintamani took out a peaceful rally in support of Anna Hazare and voiced their protest against the arrest of Anna Hazare and other members of the civil society. Few enthusiasts mobilised college students and briefed them about the nature of the grim situation that has been created by the government representatives. The college students and fellow citizens of Chintamani were able to bring awareness among the general public by their peace march.

Just a week back the English youth turned violent and looted many business establishments in England for the reasons best known to them.

Hats-off to the people of India who have organised strong protests in large numbers, especially the youth, and not even one violent act reported until now. Proud Indians, aren't we?

Chintamani Incident:Scary and Disturbing.

The killing of the thieves ( TOI report )is the lash back of the villagers who are going through a bout of insecurity from the past few months. The whole incident is a mockery of the constitution and the judiciary. But clearly this incident is the display of the frustration against the inaction by the concerned authorities and fear of the people from the threat from the anti-socials. The swift reaction of the villagers when a women was attacked and the way they organised themselves to comb for the culprits in the nearby villages is astonishing. Thanks to the cellphone marketers. However, what followed is an unwarranted incident. The villagers who disregarded the law of the land obviously did not have faith in the judiciary. The rampant incidents of dacoities and robberies are mostly a handy work of repeated offenders. The victims are from Andhra Pradesh and the preliminary investigations reveal that they all have the track record of infusing crime in Ananthapur District. The men in the surrounding villages have fled from homes fearing police arrests. From the past few months the women in the villages around Chintamani were scared to work in the fields because the culprits targeted women and snatched their ornaments causing injury. The strangers are watched suspiciously.

The situation is not different in Chintamani town either. The chain snatching, robberies, and conning has become the order of the day. There is no respite for the common people from the thieves. This is not at all an exaggeration. It is rumored that there are a few more of such gangs who are creating havoc and disturbing the society. The thieves are having a field day despite people becoming more vigilant. If the government doesn't put a brake to the increasing crime rate, there will be more 'Chintamanisation' acts everywhere. And such incidents are causing a big dent to the image of our beloved town.

CORRUPTION NIGRAHAN MUQABLA

Never had the issue of corruption was in the fore-front of focus as it is today. India stands below (87th in this given link) in the rankings of the least corrupt countries. The public sentiments was always ignored by all the past governments. Thanks to the anti corruption campaign by Sri Anna Hazare. India has a hope now. After 64 years of Independence, India is hoping to see the light at the end of the tunnel. The proposed Lokpal Bill might not completely eliminate or uproot corruption, but it will surely keep-in-check the scale of the corruption. The implementation of Lokpal Bill will help non-corrupt politicians too,but .... that is still a hope. We shall over come enjoy this wonderful rendition hoping that India will overcome this menace called corruption.

The fortunes of the Karnataka government might be similar to the power situation in the state- always in the brink of darkness. Honorable Chief Minister has managed to come out victorious against every obstacle.
Shikaripura, the assembly constituency of CM B.S Yeddyurappa rose to fame along with it's leaders political growth. This town bordering the Sahyadri ranges, part of western ghats, did not even have a proper bus stand. Now Shikaripura has gained a lot from it's leader gaining a political foot-hold. There are lot of projects that are under progress,like mini-Vidhanasoudha, Public Library, reservoir for town's water requirement, etc.

The roads that leads to the town has changed for good. Shikaripura now has a newly constructed B.S Yeddyurappa private bus stand. Couple of 'Iyravatha' buses also arrive at Shikaripura from Bangalore. ( only few government buses ply through Shikaripura).
However, the talk of the town is the newly developed garden beside the Shikaripura Lake. Hundreds of people throng to have a glimpse of the musical fountain installed in this park. The play area is crowded with children having a great time.The lights and the fountains make this park more pleasant in the evenings.

The incomplete drains is the norm all over the town, even the street of CM's residence gets the same treatment. Happy, are you? The only thing it has drained is the public money from the exchequer.

Our Responsibilty To Up-keep Chintamani

The Municipal Corporation of Chintamani has always been the first to take measures to give Chintamani a face-lift. Chintamani is one of the first towns around which banned the use of plastic bags/covers. With the cooperation of the people it has successfully weeded out the plastic bag/cover menace from the streets of Chintamani. Now it has taken a stride towards sensible and responsible way of disposing the wastes. This is one of the initiatives under the project called " ನನ್ನ ಚಿಂತಾಮಣಿ ನಗರ ಸ್ವಚ್ಛ ಸುಂದರ ನಗರ ". The citizens are requested to give away the wastes to the 'Sthree Shakti Workers'(doing a thankless job) in two seperate containers, one with the wet wastes which are biodegradable and the other one with all the recyclable trash. To bring about the awareness regarding this, the municipality is conducting roadshows in all the wards of Chintamani. Dr. M. Rame Gowda, the municipal commissioner of Chintamani says, " if we do not take drastic measures to dispose the waste appropriately then the situation will get out-of-control. Chintamani itself generates 30 tonnes of waste everyday, imagine the heap it could form if it's not disposed properly". Alarming isn't it?

The municipal authorities are putting up shelter and chairs and are also showing a documentary on the issue. All these things comes for a cost. But the people are not embracing this new initiative. The response to these camps has been lukewarm. But, the initiative will eventually see good results.

If it has to reach more people then they(the authorities) have to beam the same documentary in the theatres, or even better, seek the divine help. Since people flock to the worship places there cant be a better place than that to bring about awareness on sanity. After-all, the next thing to Godliness is cleanliness.

MLA's Hunger Strike Demanding Solution for Water Woes.

The indefinite hunger strike demanding the state government to provide sufficient potable water to Chintamani taluk continued for the 4th day. Leading this campaign is our MLA Dr M.C. Sudhakar, and his vast followers, who are also on hunger strike are supporting him in this genuine cause.MLA Dr Sudhakar said, " It's high time we draw the governments focus on our taluk's water scarcity. It's not just the drinking water of the people, Chintamani taluk being one of the highest producers of milk, it has become hard for the farmers to give their cattle it's bare necessity which is water." Speaking elaborately on the existing water problem, he said " The ground water level has reached below 800ft in most of the 40 villages in the taluk, rising the cost of digging the new bore wells and installation of powerfull pumpsets, which is required, will further jack-up the costs of its execution. The existing borewells do not have pumpsets. Its like having a bus without a driver. And, the short supplies of electricity add-up to the hardships of the farmers. The state government has turned a blind eye on Chintamani's water woes".

According to 2011 senses, Chintamani Taluk has 2.98 lac population and the town's population is 85ooo. He said, " A person needs a minimum of 55 lpcd ( litre per capita day)of water and a cow needs atleast 30-40 ltrs of water per day, and Chintamani taluk has a 65000 cattle. The problem is twofold for the farmers who are depending on the cattle for their daily bread, and ofcourse butter ".

Dr. Sudhakar is clear in his demands. He has drawn the focus of the government on the water scarcity of Chintamani. He and his supporters who are fasting have put-up a brave front continuing their strike for the 4th day, and now, they want nothing less than an immediate release of sufficient funds for taking-up the projects to improve the water supplies.
Most of the head waters and upper streams have been destroyed and, therefore, hydrological systems in rivers and lakes around have gradually collapsed. Evaporation is higher than precipitation. These pressing issues are generally marginalised by policymakers, especially at the state levels.

This also has brought some awareness about water conservation among the residents of Chintamani.

Star gazing on Saturday night

Saturday Night March 19 2011: Looking up at the perfectly clear night sky we saw the Full Moon

blazing brightly down upon us. "THE SUPER MOON" which as a general English term is

accepted by all of us gathered on the rooftop,just for the spectacular event.

We, the Amateur Stargazers of Chintamani, were mesmerized by the BIG Bright Full Moon.

We had no basis to ascertain it with measurements for the size or the intensity.

The notion of 14% bigger and 30% brighter is on the books between the Farthest(APOGEE) to

the Nearest(PERIGEE) Moons only and not necessarily in comparison with Yesterday's or

for that matter the previous full moon a month ago.

Nevertheless We all were captivated by the Celestial beauty as we struggled to

capture the Images and videos on our Digicams and with the 6" Telescope set up

exclusively for the Event By our friend's father,Who is an Amazing Enthusiast of Astronomy.

Later we trained our eyes,Binocs,cams and the telescope to the much fainter sparkle

just below the super moon and lo! we had focused on the Beautiful Saturn with a clear

view of the rings the satellites Titan and Rhea or Dione,Considering such a bright moon in the sky!!

Though we were unable to get the images or videos of Saturn and had to be satisfied

to view them through the telescope, we Vowed to return in a fortnight to Focus Again

and Click some photos on a moonless night!!!!

India's debacle in the last Cricket World Cup is still haunting Chintamaniacs. We, myself and brother Radheshyam , from Chintamani had been to Trinidad, West Indies to root for India. All thanks to Uncle Dr Guru Prakash Ganjur from USA who also joined in. Folks in India were happy to see on TV a Chintamani banner in the stadium in all the matches that India played and we were the proud Chintamaniacs holding it. India's shocking defeat in the first match against the minnows Bangladesh was a huge set back. The Indian players morale hit the ground and they never showed any signs of recovery throughout their short stint in the tournament. We were lucky to watch all the teams in the group (India, Srilanka, Bangladesh & Bermuda) very closely since they were all put-up in the same hotel , The Hilton Trinidad, that we stayed in. Indian players most of the times stayed indoors. They never looked like a team and we could spot few players coming out alone for the gym and the pool. They used to alight the bus that took them to the stadium discretely. The Lankans moved in groups like the Lions and were having great fun mingling with the fans. The Bangladesh team looked like a college cricket team, full of energy. The Bermuda team comprised mid aged players and veterans who had nothing to loose from the loss. India also lost to Srilanka and the only consolation was a victory against lowly ranked Bermuda, Veerendra Sehwag hitting a century, and by then it was too late. Frankly, India lost the matches mostly due to the non-cricketing reasons, like politics and individual egos, and the team's dis-aligning with the coach Greg Chappel not helping India's cause.

India, this time has the ability to erase the not-so-memorable (absolutely memorable for us though) outing in the last World Cup. Victory heals and we want nothing less from this team. India are one match away from the quarter finals.
Hope India will bring the World Cup home- for the billions of fans, and for Sachin -The Greatest.

B.R. Lakshman Rao - He deals with words, in this business town.

Romanticism is his forte. His microscopical view of romance and its nuances are well described with the beautiful lyricism and pun with the same earnest passion he has towards love through his poems. This has made him one of the prominent faces in the modern kannada literary world. His half-humored, cynical and sometimes paradoxical take on the earthly matters in his poems has brought him recognition and people have honored him with awards, and the most recent being the Karnataka government's prestigious Rajyotsava Award. His exemplary contribution to the kannada literature and the way he has delighted the hearts of the young and those young at heart alike has made B.R.Lakshman Rao a name synonymous to Chintamani.

B.R.Laksman Rao, also-known-as BRL, was deeply influenced by the works of great English poets Keats and Eliot during his masters in English literature. "Gopi mattu Gaandaleena,1971- Jolly Baarinalli " link- a poem portraying an innocent boy's plight in a dance bar became widely popular. The collection of his poems "Chintamani" (dedicating to his native) and "Camera Kannu" has captured and has brought-forth the intricate and vivid pictures of life. Many reputed writers like H.S. Venkatesh Murthy, Jayanth Kaikini, etc, have written forewords to his books. He has also written a novel(Heegondhu Premakathe) and his compilations of poems "Columbus" has also been translated to English, in which there is a poem on Chintamani titled "My Native".

Dr. Rajkumar, S.P. Balasubramaniam, Ratnamala Prakash, Sonu Nigam, Mysore Ananthaswamy, M.D.Pallavi (Amma Ninna Yedeyaaladalli)and many other famous singers have lent their voice to his lyrics. Noted composer and singer C. Ashwath had brought out several music albums (Kengulaabi, Subbabhattara Magale, Anuraaga, etc) and were loved by the listeners and they still linger in their minds. But, listening to some of his compositions in his own inimitable voice, especially "Nimbegida thumba chanda" song is a treat. The students who went to the english classes in his Vinayaka Tutorials recollect those wonderful time when he used to sing for his students. A couple of BRL's compositions ("Baare Rajakumari" - "Baa Maleye Baa" youtube link) have been adopted to films. "Baa maleye baa" another youtube version will leave you mesmerised with its music, tune, Sonu Nigam's voice and amazing lyrics.

A poet who made his mark, and whose works originated from Chintamani, and is a proud posession of Chintamani, is now moving to Bangalore. CC wishes him and his wonderful family all the happiness and prosperity.

A musical program was arranged by C.Ashwath admirers in Chintamani. During this occasion B.R.Laksman Rao was felicitated for bringing the Rajyotsava Award to Chintamani. The music troop led by Upasana Mohan rendered many compositions of BRL. The audience thoroughly enjoyed this concert and celebrated their own fellow citizen winning an award.

The bandh enforced by the state government managed to disrupt the day-to-day affairs of peace loving Chintamaniacs. The shops and the business establishments closed shutters to avoid triggering of any unruly incidents. The people who had travel plans had to negotiate some road blocks and torching of tyres. The government bus-stand wore a deserted look because the buses had stopped plying from early morning. The children had a field day enjoying their surprise holiday.

Ronald Reagan had said, "We must not look to government to solve our problems. Here government is the problem." True, and here - the government is in problem.

It's the weather that has been the subject of every conversation from the past couple of weeks in Chintamani. The mercury is playing around 14-19 degree C. On some days it also dropped to 11 degree C and finally on 23rd Dec early morning it dipped to 9 degree C. The fog completely engulfed Chintamani. Lion on Hill Top : Mark Of Chintamani

Chintamani Simham

Sri Vardanjaneya Hill is the symbol of Chintamani. It is obvious that anybody who visits Chintamani will get attracted towards this hill and the huge sculpture of the lion on it's top. As the name suggests the hilltop has a temple of Hanuman which was built in the year 1936. Hundreds of devotees throng to this temple on Hanumajayanthi.

The bust of the lion sculpture has a door so one can crawl inside to have a view of the town through the mouth of this magnificently built concrete effigy. This probably was used by some rulers to keep watch over the town to protect it from enemy attacks.

The view from the hilltop is something more than fascinating. Locating the landmarks of Chintamani from the hilltop is fun and the visitors enjoy this moment the most.

The hilltop also has a fountain pool with the beautiful idols of RadhaKrishna in the center. And the children can enjoy the slides and swings specifically made for them in the play area.

And behind the lion sculpture is a natural cave which was closed recently to avoid troublesome miscreants.

It takes 350 steps, which are neatly laid, to climb this hillock. But the high it gives is beyond description . Thanks to the people who have managed to keep this picnic place really clean.

ವ್ಯಾಯಾಮಶಾಲೆ

There is also something else that is worth mentioning- an old gymnasium or Vyayamashaale ( ವ್ಯಾಯಾಮಶಾಲೆ ). Everyday, morning and evening, the body building enthusiasts come here and meticulously work-out in this solid environment. There are a few lion hearted champions who do 'push-ups' and 'sit-ups' on every step while climbing down the hill.

The significance of the lion sculpture.....? To scare the evil away? To freighten the fraudulants? Or, maybe, to motivate the Chintamaniacs????

The New Railway Station Waits For The Train to Arrive.

The construction of the new railway station is underway and it is nearing completion. The new building has ticket counters, toilets, shop space and waiting area. This new railway station is built adjacent to the old railway station.

The proposed Bangalore-Cudapah train will pass through this station. The train will help reduce the road traffic and will certainly help the people who commute frequently. How far it is going to be usefull is to be seen? The laying of the rails is still pending and looks like it could take couple of years for everything to fall in place. The approach roads to the railway station is the only glitch. The residents of the town have to sneak through the narrow lanes of Doddapete and Agrahaara to reach the railway station. This surely will become a new problem that has to be fore-thought and has to be fixed.

The old railway station still stands there like a monument. The old train that resembled a bus used to travel from Yelahanka to Bangarpete at a very slow pace. A man near the railway station said that the train that left Chintamani would screech to halt at Yelahanka after a 5 long hrs. When asked about the newly proposed train route that the town is eagerly waiting , he said

"ನಾನು 'ಟಿಕೆಟ್' ತೊಗೋಳಕ್ಕೆ ಮುಂಚೆ ರೈಲು ನೋಡ್ತಿನೋ ಇಲ್ವೋ ಗೊತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ , ಗುರುವೇ..."

I am new to this blog. I grately appreciate the efforts of the blog author for his love towards Chintamani.
I have few suggestions to make regarding Chintamani town development.

1)This town desperately needs a ring road to divert the bus/truck traffic in entering the city

2)Quality of the new roads are pathetic. These news roads hardly lasts for one full year.

3)People of Chintamani deserves good Engineering and Medical college facilities.

4)They need to develop a Industrial township for Manufacturing and IT companies, taking advantage of the close proximity of Chintamani to Bangalore International Airport. They can also improvise the existing industrial estate on bangalore road.

5)Huge water storage damns/tanks should be built at the four corners of Chintamani town, to store rain water, similar to the one at Kailasagiri road.

6)We should develop tourism spots with modern facilities for the travellers, for example, Kaivara (temple tourism), Ambajidurga Hills (Trekking/Adventure Sports), Murugamalla Darga (Religious Tourism), Grape farms/Rose flower farms (Eco-tourism).

Having said all the above, Chintamani is a very scenic beautiful hill town. But the Chintamani town planners lack a long-term vision for this beautiful town.

If someone from this blog has contacts with Chintamani politicians, please raise these issues with them.

Chintamani is close to bangalore, but Chintamani doesn't even have a modern super-speciality hospital. Look at the neighbouring town, Madanapalle in AP. Madanaplle got good engineering colleges, medical hospitals etc. You might be wondering why this town has been a sleepy town for so long, because there is no master plan for chintamani to develop this town into commerical business center.

Chintamani is a major junction for all the major towns in around Bangalore and neighbouring Andhra. Atleast they started now to renovate the KSRTC bus station in Chintamani. They should run more KSRTC services from Chintamani. For example Chintamani to Bangalore route is dominated by private bus operators, this private bus service takes more time and overdose you with those crappy movies and loud music. Why can't they have non-stop KSRTC services from Chintamani to Bangalore/Hoskote, let them start one, and they will find out the demand. KSRTC should also provide more bus services from Chintamani to Tirupati, lot of people from in and around Chintamani go to madanapalle to visit tirupati.

Some of the above issues are very minor, and they can be rectified with minimum effor by our politicians. But our politicians doesn't have a vision to develop new roads, build new colleges, create new industrial townships, and store rain water.

I am always surprised to see that a beautiful town like Chintamani so close to bangalore/devanahalli without proper health/water/road/employment infrastructure.

People of Chintamani cannot survive forever depending on agricultural economy and they need to create new economies for the fture generations.

This is my analysis about Chintamani, please take my suggestions in a positive constructive way.

Saturday the 25th September evening will be remembered by the people of Chintamani for a very long time. The 2800th week of "Saahithya Koota"(ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಕೂಟ-click here) attracted hundreds of people.

Dr. Na. Someshwara(Sampada.net) held the pulse ( a doctor that he is) of the audience for nearly 3 hours with his inimitable quizzing style. For once the people loved questions and more questions. There were plenty of books up for grab as prizes. Dr. Na. Someshwara was honored by

Dr M.C.Sudhakar,MLA, on this occasion. (From the records: On the 1000th week of "Saahitya Koota", Shri Gopala Krishna Adiga, a great Kannada litterateur, was honored by the then MLA Shri. "ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಕೂಟ-Saahithya Koota" on Saturday the 25th of September is celebrating its 2800 gratifying weeks of selfless contribution. This milestone week program will be held at Sri Brahmachaitanya Srirama Mandir, N.R. Extension at 6:45 PM. Dr. Na. Someshwara of Chandana TV "ಥಟ್ ಅಂತ ಹೇಳಿ" fame will be presiding the program and will also host a quiz program for the audience present. Dr. M.C. Sudhakar, MLA, will be the chief guest.

Y.N. Vanishri, grand niece of Y.S Gundappa, an upcoming singer in Bangalore will be rendering the compositions of Shri.YSG.

Receiving the President's Award

Saahithya Koota was founded by late Shri. Y.S. Gundappa, a winner of The President's Award for teaching. He received the award from the former President Shri S.Radhakrishnan. Since then it has been a nonstop weekly Saturday programs running into its 55th year. By starting Saahithya Koota he provided a platform for many speakers, singers, entertainers,etc. The topics of the speakers varied from philosophy to politics,science to cinema,etc . This was, and still is, a stage that gave the speakers the freedom to speak about almost anything and everything. Similar to the Speaker's Corner, in Hyde park, London. Saahithya Koota is still encouraging budding artists of all kind and running it's weekly Saturday program at Shishuvihaara, behind central library, in the exemplary path shown by YSG. Thanks to the efforts of Shri.Y.G.Anantha Shastry(son of YSG), and Shri G. Jayaram. Chintamani is really proud to have a podium with a great legacy.

Continuing their effort to beautify the roads of Chintamani, the municipality has sent notices to all the shops to get rid of their stocks of plastic covers or bags, plastic cups and plates etc, with in 30.09.2010, and the people who fail to do so will have to face penalties. The municipality has issued this order keeping in view the littering on streets and the plastic contributing to this mess to a large extent. They have also mentioned the harm caused to the environment due to the mindless way of its usage. This cleanliness drive taken by the governing body of Chintamani is laudable. They should also take steps to bring about awareness on the same issue among the general public.

Nothing moves without someones initiative. Look around you, everything that your eyes see is the by-product of someones initiative. Benjamin Franklin, initiated the growth of modern America. In the last parts of the11th chapter( click here for 11th chapter ) of his autobiography he has dealt in detail of how he planned to keep the pavements clean. CC strongly recommends his autobiography as a must read for all and a great guide especially for the people involved in governance.

The pedestrians will not have to walk in between the moving vehicles on the double road . They can freely walk on the footpath and allow the the traffic to move freely as well. "Oh, ooh, not in Chintamani!". That could be your immediate response. Wait and watch. Where there is a will(power-of police) there is a way. Few more obstacles have to be cleared, for that the shop owners on the double road will have to cooperate with the authorities. It's not impossible though- with this gritty approach. CC had written about the Double road initiative by RAGE, which now seems is not a distant dream. The Chintamani police have taken a drive to relocate the street hawkers on the Double Road to the market area near-by. Their agenda is to clear the footpath for the pedestrians. Super Police! Up your arms, more to do.

The protest rally against Metro Cash & Carry went off peacefully. The members of Chintamani Distributors Association and Chintamani Merchants Association walked through the main roads of the town starting from Azad Chowka at 10:45am, and submitted the memorandum at the Tahasildar's office at 12noon. The office of the Tahasildar promised to take up the arising problem out of Metro's new business strategy and put forth the same over the tables of the higher officers. Both the associations warned that they might have to protest intensely involving other organisations like Electrical Establishments, Bar Association, Footwear Traders Association, Fruit & Vegetable Merchants, Consumer Durables Dealers etc. to drive back The Metro for good. The government should take steps to stop this menace called Metro to safe guard the interests of thousands of Indian families, they demanded.
Well meant are the wounds a friend inflicts, but profuse are the kisses of an enemy.

The positives, they said, out of the rally is that the public became aware of the ulterior motives of Metro Cash & Carry and has also united various business organisations. This will definitely help them solve few common problems they face in the day to day business affairs.

Obama's "protectionist tone" on outsourcing has created a flutter in the Indian IT industry. The BPO industry's survival depends (over 70% of revenues)totally on the American policies. The developed countries advocate free trade policies when everything seems hunky-dory. See now, when the unemployment problem cropped-up in their backyard they want to stop outsourcing. Japan had heavy import barriers until their automobile industry became big enough to dictate terms over other(read Detroit) countries.
Indian policies has stopped foreign direct investment in retailing. Metro Cash & Carry, a subsidiary of a German company of the same name, started its business as a whole-saler who is only permitted to sell to the re-sellers. From the day since it started it's business it always looked wary. The APMC traders had to protest hard to make them stop selling the APMC listed products. The open secret that any consumer can buy things from their outlets exposes their disrespect to the law of the land they trade in.
But now, Metro is trying to flex it's muscles in semi-urban India. It has appointed stockists at Kolara, Bangarapete and couple of other towns to market the products they deal( mutton to maida, Vaseline to vodka, sauce to switches) with. Knowing its artful way of doing business it'll certainly dislocate the existing business system of manufacturer-distributor-retailer-consumer. This system could be the second largest (next to agriculture) employer in India. The impact of Obama's policies can be measured through the dipping sensex, but the loss due to the Metro goes unnoticed. The Metro will sell all company products until they gain a foothold in the market and eventually promote their in-house brands killing other company brands.

Chintamani Distributors Association & Chintamani Merchants Association will organise a rally to protest against Metro cash & carry from appointing a stockist in Chintamani, to awaken the policy makers to take necessary action and to alert all the citizens from the trade invaders on 18th of August at 10 am from Azad Chowka.

Night Intruders Nabbed By Vigilant Police

Six thieves who used to brake the shutters of shops and steal cash and valuables were nabbed by the impelling Chintamani Police. Finally, for the people of Chintamani this news brings in a sigh of relief. The thefts during the last couple of months had increased to extremity. The businessmen had sleepless nights. Owners of the garment shops, coffee factory, grocery shops, bakeries and cellphone shops were the victims of their modus operandi. And the police had a challenge staring straight in their face. They had a pressure from all corners to solve this series of thefts. The Police became more vigilant and the trouble makers were trapped.
The six arrested are also involved in couple of robberies. They are aged between 18 & 22. Five of them belong to Chintamani and the other guy(sitting,second from left), who is an expert in breaking the strongest of locks is from Chickaballapura.

Football fans in Chintamani waited till midnight to watch the match between Spain and Netherlands with lots of excitement-though octopus Paul had decided(cannot call it prediction anymore) the winner well before the kick-off. K-ರೆಂಟ್ E-ಲ್ಲದ B-ಒರ್ಡ್ ,now BESCOM, didn't want to feel left behind. Can they? They played the role of a spoil sport to perfection. The power went off in between the final match preventing the football fans from viewing the match uninterrupted.
The students are finding it hard to cope-up with this irregular power supplies. Thanks to the unscheduled heavy power cuts. The UPS and Generator dealers, Candle and Lamp manufacturers and last but not the least, the chain snatchers and the burglars, are going back to their homes with a big smile.

"Kuruba Akkayyamma Smaraka" got its due recognition(posted June 2,2009Archives: A century old structure. ) Now this century old structure proudly stands tall in the heart of Chintamani. It has got a new water tap and drinking water too. All the street side encroachers have been vacated and this action by the town municipal corporation has brought smiles on the people who pass-by this road. With the petty shops, non-vegetarian hotels throwing their wastes around it, it looked almost impossible to vacate them from here. The acute shortage of electricity has affected Chintamani severely.The Ramnagar(near chintamani) BESCOM substation which supports 26 KV stations requires 135MW of electricity is now receiving just 30MW.Chintamani town requires 8MW, but it is receiving a mere 0.5 MW.The industries which totally depends on electricity are hit hard by the inefficient governance. The farmers are unable to take proper care of their crops because they hardly get power supplies.When every area of life is improving and seeing progress, this (electric supplies) is one area where we are way far behind. Looks like we are heading back to the stone age.The projects has to be taken in war-footing and some bold decisions has to be made. The big cities are wasting electricity in the name of urbanisation. All electric advertising boards and decorative lighting has to be banned all over the state.Unless the government takes such steps there is no respite for the people living in the rural areas of the state. A unit saved is equal to two units generated.

The elite in the urban cities point at the farmers getting free power and also at the power thefts for irrigation purposes, overlooking the organised and rampant industrial power thefts which amounts to crores of rupees.

Dream "Chokka Chintamani"

"Chokka Chintamani" is an initiative by RAGE(Radiant Activists for Great Environment)

for bringing about the awareness in general public, the street hawkers and the shop keepers of the Double Road in Chintamani. RAGE plans to distribute the pictures and register them to this goal, and also put up hoardings to enroll people for this cause called "CHOKKA CHINTAMANI".The picture is created by Kishore Kumar(a chintamaniac) of Ashish Graphics, Bangalore. The picture helps even a common man to easily visualise a very clean Chintamani. RAGE believes that "A dream can drive us to the destiny". This idea was presented to MLA Dr M.C.Sudhakar. The young leader shared passionately his plans and projects of making Chintamani a better place. It is already reflecting in lots of public works that are happening in the town.

The 20th September, Sunday turned out to be a very special day in the history of Chintamani. The legendary Carnatic Musician Dr Balamuralikrishna graced the music lovers of Chintamani. Though it was his second visit to Chintamani(had visited Sri Brahmachaitanya Srirama Mandira in the year 2007),

this was the first time he enthraled his fans with his soulfull music. The concert will last in the memories of Chintamaniacs forever, especially his trademark Thillaana. The concert was arranged at SLN Theatre by Chintamani Gayana Samaja. Thanks to our own music Guru Sri. L.Y.Srinivasa Reddy who dreamt this day and fulfilled it, and celebrated with the hundreds of music lovers.

Earlier in the day, Dr BMK layed the foundation stone for the construction of a music college here in Nama Prabhakara Layout. The music college is yet another dream project of Sri L.Y.Srinivasa Reddy.Speaking on the occassion Dr BMK assured that he would lend his services to the music college. Mr Nama Prabhakar has generously donated a valuable site for this cause.

A century old structure.

This is a 100 years old structure in the heart of Chintamani, off double road, in front of Government Girls Middle School(boys high school few decades ago). This was built to provide water to the passersby, and was used to that purpose for a long time.The Government Girls high School which was called 'Musafir Kkana'(travellers bunglow) is just opposite to this structure,and the old bus stand adjucent to this.'Kurubara Akkayyamma Memorial-1909' is now surrounded by road side shops which blocks its view.When CC wanted to know the history of the structure, it strangely found that the records of this structure is not available with the government minicipal office.This probably is the oldest public structure in Chintamani? CC hereby requests its readers to provide any information that could throw light on this peace of building in Chintamani.

The response to the parliament elections was weak in Chintamani.People seemed to have resigned to the fact that nothing can change the state of their living and their voting doesn't matter.The turnout could be less than 50%.Chintamani did not see that usual excitement of the elections,not even the politicos seemed interested in generating any interest this time.The Bollywood film stars call for voting went waste.Probably Chintamani needed some local celebrities to bring about some awareness.Or, nothing will change-not even the public mindset.

Happy Valentine's Day.The oldest valentine story known is Ramayana.
The rocks used to build the bridge to Lanka is at Kodandarama Temple,Azad Chowka, in Chintamani.Believe it!The rocks are for public view during Ramanavami celebrations during the month of April.Unfortunately these rocks are not in the safe hands.It was kept in a small stinking tank and couple of rocks are now missing.It is embarassing to mention that in Chintamani some religious bodies and political parties protested the proposed demolition of the 'Ram sethu' and turning blind eye on precious historic thing in close proximity. CC(Chintamani Calling) will take initiatives to bring this to the notice of concerned government department and protect this piece of Great Valentine story of Lord Ram and Sita.(The letters on the board is in kannada and the language used is Telugu,ofcourse not the typial Chintamani telugu). What's Fashion? Struggling for Ration.

It's not a Fashion high street. But it’s the common people made to sit on the street waiting to collect the ration cards. This is a common sight at all ration card distribution centers. People sometimes have to taste the police cane treatment to get their ration card. Their struggle doesn’t end there; they have to stand in long ques and have to fight each other to get the limited grocery stocks available from the Fair price depot. Its the same British formula-divide and rule.Quite unfair isn’t it? Ration card is also the proof of ones existence and hence it is necessary to obtain it. The government has created a problem for a solution to a problem.

This is a statue of Hanuman(less than his lifesize) at Booragamakalahalli,3 kms from Chintamani.Booragamakalahalli also has a Hanuman temple and behind the temple is a <"kalyaani">(a well). This village is on the Srinivaspur(famous for its mangoes) Road, with lots af mango grooves around.

Vaikunta Ekadasi"Vaikunta Ekadasi" was celebrated in Chintamani with most of the temples attracting hundreds of devotees.People of all ages thronged the temples from the dawn of this auspicious day and lined up to have the Darshan of their Lord with devotion.It is believed that the 'Lord Vishnu" gives the 'darshan' through the door at the north in the 'Vaikunta'on this day every year.Ofcourse,all other doors are open for the rest of the days for his beloved devotees.

Picture Courtesy:Chintamani Rockers.This is how Chintamani looked from the top of Kannampalli Hills at the strike of 00:01 on the 1st Jan 2009.Chintamaniacs celebrated the new year like there was no tomorrow.Hundreds of youth on their bikes wandered all around the town.Although there were enough stars to light up the sky lots of fire crackers illuminated the night sky.More than the celebration of the new year this picture looks like a celebration of Chintamani itself.

Never had the roads been this worst.The condition gets even worse in the rainy season.The road that leads to Bangalore is better these days.The main roads of Chintamani,MG Road and Double Road, its really hard to spot the road.

These beautifull pictures are of "Mahakailasagiri Hills".It takes just 15mins drive to reach this lovely place.The hill top lake adds up to the beauty of the huge rocks.The tree is half submerged in the water and next to it is a temple.We reccommend it as a must visit(5 stars *****) place in Chintamani.
